Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
March 06- Sergio in a hyperbaric chamber at
(we are hoping to purchase a home hyperbaric chamber for him soon.) Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment during which the entire body is placed in an airtight chamber at increased atmospheric pressure. The patient is surrounded by and breathes 100 percent pure oxygen. This treatment is proven effective for a number of different medical and surgical conditions either as a primary or adjunctive treatment. It is also used to treat many other medical conditions that are still considered experimental by the mainstream medical establishment—despite decades of reported benefit. Hyper-baric therapy has long been used to treat divers for underwater pressure pains (we sometime refer to it as the “bends”) and is highly effective with burn victims as well as those who have undergone major surgery and need extra skin healing care. It has been noted by many in the medical field of both western and eastern medicines that constant time in a hyperbaric chamber has helped with a variety of other ailments such as MS, autism, fatigue, people going through cancer therapy- just to name a few. American insurances do not recognized the benefits and will not pay for most hyper-baric therapy leaving the patient to pay out of pocket for treatment. Treatments for this therapy can cost from $75 to $225 an hour- most patients need a regiment of at least 5 hours a week for the benefits to work properly. Very costly!!!
