************************************************** Dear friends, Last year, over 100 of our family & friends joined in the 2007 5K Walk to raise funds for the ALS society. We raised over $6200! Our t-shirt design won 1st place & Koby, the dog, won “Best Dressed Dog” (wearing The Fighting Italians” t-shirt). Sergio (with the help of nephew and co-captain, Brandon ) along with another team, were honored when asked to cut the ribbon & lead the over 2500 people in the walk. It was an amazing day for all. The funds raised not only go towards research but the money also goes towards helping any PALS (People with ALS) & their families with help, equipment & much needed support of all type. ALS progressively destroys the nerve connections between the brain & muscle. The mind & senses are unaffected. All voluntary muscle movements systematically begin to shut down leaving the patient unable to move, communicate, swallow & eventually breathe on their own. There is no cure. This year, Sergio (in his wheelchair) & his family will be leading the team again & we would love to get as many people backing him up & involved in our group as possible. You can help in many different ways: ***WALKERS/ VIRTUAL WALKERS/ DONATIONS*** Join Sergio, his family & his team- “The Fighting Italians” - in walking the 5K with us on Saturday, October 18th, 08 at Mason Regional Park in Irvine, CA. The walk begins at 10am (check in is at 8am) & goes until about noon (bring a picnic lunch for the after walk party). 1. The day of the walk-------Be at Mason Regional Park on October 18th by 9am to check in wearing your "THE FIGHTING ITALIANS" T-shirt (or a plain red t-shirt). Walk begins at 10 and should end around noon. A water bottle for the walking time is a good idea. Bring a picnic lunch for your family and join us at "Camp Italy". We will need to take a group picture for OC ALS as well as take lots of pictures for our own fun. Bring your camera- lots of great photo opts. We wrapped things up around 2:30 last year. 8. And as always, please pray for Sergio, his family & all those who have been affected by ALS in their lives. That truly means a lot to us all! We can’t begin to thank all of you who help us out with last year’s walk. The love and support was over whelming! The whole De Luca family thanks you for the kindness that you have shown us in the past few years. You are a blessing to us all. We look forward in hearing from you soon. God Bless and Hugs to all, the Fighting Italians. ********************************************* Read Brandon's letter for donations: click on link below: |
