Celebrating Christmas

The holidays were filled with fun and laughs and a great deal of love.

The Christmas day festivities were held at Dina and Brandon's home (Sergio's niece and husband), and was filled with lots of family, food and fun.

Of course, there was the fury of wrapping paper and gifts for the kids. Even the "furry people... aka dogs) got in on some of the fun as they were running and chasing each other in the back yard. The traditional DeLuca Christmas feast of Wedding Soup and Lasagna was served along with a table full of sweet treats. We were happy to have cousin Terry and his friend, Carl, join us as well as friends, Ken and Shannon Evans stopping by to give Sergio holiday hugs.

Look who's been naughty?

Well, it's February 2010... Five years ago this month, Sergio started experiencing small changes in his body- a twitch that wouldn't go away, the inability to turn the cap of a water bottle easily, some slurred speech...

a few months later, the doctors diagnosed him as having ALS- aka Lou Gehrig's disease. Doctors gave the grim timetable of just a couple of years - at best.

FIVE YEAR LATER...

although Sergio can not do much on his own (move or speak), he is still with us and spending time any amount of time with him is a gift from God- that's why we call it the "present". It takes us a little time to understand what he is trying to communicate to us but we somehow get it. He still has opinions about life and shares them with us as best he can.

We don't know why this is happening to our family or what God's plans are for us. We do feel that through this whole ordeal, He is helping us to be more compassionate towards others- to come closer to Him- to love each other just a little bit more. In our hearts we believe that He is preparing us all for his Kingdom of greatness. Maybe that is what this is all about?

Sergio and the whole DeLuca family want to thank everyone who thinks of us and sends their thoughts of love and support. It is such a blessing to all of us when someone will let us know that they were thinking of him and keep a pray for us all. God Bless you all....
