Page 3 TRIAL AND TRIBULATION- WHAT SERGIO THINKS IS RIGHT FOR HIS BODY One of the very first things that Sergio did was to change his eating habits- going as organic as possible, and taking all the recommended vitamins that were described in various books and articles on ALS. At one point, Sergio was taking up to 40 pills a day. Sergio lost over 20 pounds the first few weeks but he has able to put most of the weight back on (very important for ALS patients to have some weight on).
He also went to UCI Medical Center’s clinic for ALS headed by Dr. Mozaffar. Sergio was accepted to be a part of a clinical study of Monocycline for ALS. The study required him to stop taking a few things (Creatine and Co Q10) to make all study cases as equal as possible. Sergio went in once a month for a few months and got his vitals recorded. On the fourth month of the program, he would receive either the monocycline or a placebo. Not feeling very confident in the study and the fact that he had to give up a few very important vitamins, etc. Sergio soon quit the study because he felt he was a un-necessary guinea pig and he could not afford to waste the precious little time he had with his family on possibly receiving placebos.
___________________________________________________________ Meanwhile, his sister Sonia wanted to help with the back and neck pain he was experiencing. She and her husband, Ken, have a dear friend (Dr. Virgil Robertson) who runs Brea Canyon Pain Relief and Rehabilitation Center 714-671-1150 710 N Brea Blvd suite G Brea, CA 92821 His office also has a massage therapist (Marla Hamilton) on staff.
Massages never hurt anyone and if a few of them could give Sergio some relief of his back and neck pain, then that would be wonderful. He started massage therapy and then tried chiropractic adjustments which helped a bit. He went to the chiropractor for several weeks until he decided that the Dr Robertson did all he could do for the moment. He continued the once a week massages. The neck and back pain were diminished greatly but he was still having some neck problems.
Mr. Jun Paek L.Ac. Knowing that Sergio didn't not want to take any more pills and is not fully trusting of western medicine doctors, Sonia offered up the suggestion to see an acupuncturist (Mr. Jun Paek) who is on staff at the office. Sergio goes once a week and has acupuncture and pressure therapy which seems to allow more movement in his neck and allow him to get some sleep at night. Sergio looks forward to his acupuncture appointments and feels that they have really helped. He has cut the massages back to once every other month, and his chiropractic visits to whenever he and Dr. Robertson feels that they would be most helpful. But that was just the beginning.... click on the link below to read about the next few months. Check for more updates every two to three weeks. go to photo gallery and check out all the new pictures posted lately. |
